Joseph Saeidian, a psychology student at UC Santa Barbara, began with an ambitious vision. He wanted to promote world peace, which to him was a state of mind rather than a mere wish. “World Peace Puzzle,” a unique online contest, represents the fruition of his efforts over the past year. The puzzle’s success depends on business sponsors that enable it to distribute prizes to contest winners and implement future plans for the website. The contest is therefore appealing to companies of all sizes to buy a piece of the puzzle.
‘World Peace Puzzle’ transforms the world map into a jigsaw puzzle with 5,000 pieces. Each piece will be hyperlinked to a page representing a company that chooses to sponsor the contest and support its worthy ideals. The contest has generated buzz and excitement partly because the first ten people who complete the puzzle will share a sum of $100,000. Joseph has already secured the support of a group of UC Santa Barbara students, who have purchased the puzzle’s first piece. But the website is not just about sponsorships and prizes. It provides a forum for people of all ages and backgrounds to exchange ideas about attaining inner, social, and global peace.
The website’s purpose is to create a community that would embody the highest human ideals, including world peace, the unity of all humankind, and personal fulfillment, but also generate the excitement and popular appeal of a social networking site. This is the overarching vision of World Peace Contest, which seeks to earn people’s recognition and support throughout the world.
Joseph began this project with meager savings but a world of hope. His dream now is to inspire other people and set in motion a wave that will sweep the globe. It is only a matter of time before millions make World Peace Contest the beginning of a deeply personal journey with direct relevance to our troubled world.
