Publetariat.com, a new online news hub and community for indie authors and small imprints, announced its launch yesterday at the O’Reilly Tools of Change conference on technology and publishing currently taking place in Manhattan.
Says founder April L. Hamilton, “There are plenty of websites geared to writers seeking mainstream publication, and there are many online resources for medium- to large-sized imprints, but there’s been a real vacuum on the web where the wants and needs of indie authors and small imprints are concerned. The topics of interest to indies are often very different than those of the mainstream, and we also struggle to gain full acceptance on those other sites. Publetariat article contributors include subject area experts in book marketing, author services, and publishing in both print and digital media, as well as successful indie authors and small imprint owners. Just as importantly, the site provides indie authors with a truly welcoming and inclusive community where they will never again have to defend their decision to self-publish.”
When asked about the name and design of the site, Hamilton responded, “The name ‘Publetariat’
