Retrofit Films, a Hollywood-based producer of original new media content, announced record year-over-year earnings growth of 57% in fiscal 2008. Capitalizing on their reputation as "go-to" digital showrunners of webisodes, documentary featurettes and animated mobisodes for such clients as NBC.com, Sprint, Warner Brothers Worldwide Marketing, Ogilvy, DC Comics, Dreamworks and the Sci-Fi Channel, the company soundly met all quarterly revenue goals.
"We attribute any success we've had to our diverse short-form production portfolio and our company's core tenet that content is king," says Tanner Kling, co-CEO of Retrofit Films. "Whether we're writing, producing or directing a webseries, animated mobile series or gameisodes for international clients, it all starts with original, high-impact content."
Retrofit's most visible projects in 2008 include two webseries for NBC's Heroes, "Going Postal" and "The Recruit," the webseries "Conspiracy Theory" for NBC's My Own Worst Enemy, the animated webseries "Kara & The Chronicles of Krypton" for the CW's long-running Smallville and the latter series' seventh season special features on DVD and Blu-Ray, among many others.
"Regardless of the current economic downturn, we're confident the market for branded digital entertainment and mobile media will continue to grow," adds Chris Hanada, Retrofit Films' other co-CEO. "Already in 2009 we're seeing new clients from blue-chip brands and their respective ad agencies to smaller companies who are seeking an online presence, all of whom are redirecting ad budgets towards economical webisodes to test the waters of social media and online marketing."
