Nineteen year old Peter Farley - the youngest of three bull-riding brothers - put together a pair of incredible rides atop two of Australia’s wildest bucking bulls, to claim victory. The win also promoted Farley from third to first on the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Australia standings, making him the 2008 PBR Australian Champion Bull Rider.
Following his round high score of 90, Farley drew champion bull "How u Doin'" in the short go, and set the stadium alight with an amazing ride. As the ride neared 8 seconds Farley was struck by the bull and flung from his back. Farley hit the ground hard and did not move. All 5000 people were in absolute shock, hoping the cowboy was ok. As the medical staff treated the concussed cowboy the crowd were informed that he had indeed ridden time and had recorded an event high 91 points, handing him the national final title and the Champion Bull Rider Buckle.
Pete Farley, edged out Jock Connolly in the season standings with Ben Seeds filling the podium. Sidvicous took out the 2008 PBR Australia Champion Bucking Bull, and Brendan Allen, was a worthy recipient of Bullfighter of the year.
The PBR calendar for 2009 has been released (see http://www.pbraustralia.com) and before too long we will be kicking off the season with events at Cooyar Show, QLD on the 21st February and at Marrabel, SA on the 28th February.
