Jory Regn is the creator and producer of Redrum Raleigh, the murder mystery dinner theater troupe that is taking the Triangle by storm. They launched their Spring 2009 season to a sell-out crowd of over one hundred at Tir RaNog in Raleigh.
Redrum is "murdeR" spelled backwards, as publicized by a Stephen King mystery. It echoes with the vibrant images of Red Rum and Red Drums even before one knows that it is about murder - murder mystery theater.
Following a dream, Jory inspired a group of volunteer actors to participate in fleshing out her scripts and taking their passion to dinner audiences into Triangle venues. Metro Cafe. Tir Ra Nog. The Mint. ZPizza. La Foresta. There will be many more. Already venues have invited the theater group back.
Jory writes her own scripts, taking cues from hot news topics and "green" issues and twisting them into surprising and funny turns to leave both her actors and her audience laughing with glee. Her actors flesh out the characters, melding their own strengths and qualities to shape the initial forms that Jory proposes. There's always something changing, so it's live theater.
The first act sets the scene and the murder. Then dinner is served. Over dessert, the second act brings on the detectives and the investigation. At the end of the second act, guests guess who the murderer is. Act 3 celebrates the winners and hands out door prizes.
Tickets run for about $20 for the show, which doesn't include the meal. Each venue has its own prices for the meal and drinks.
