Breakthrough channels Earth’s magnetic field into new form of vehicular propulsion

Feb. 9, 2009 - PRLog -- Atlanta, GA – For years, many people around the world have been clamoring for an invention that replaces gasoline powered vehicles, and now they have it.

This is the subject of Brian Schan’s debut novel, The Loyal Traveler (346pp, TPB, $12.99). The timely technothriller dares to imagine what would happen if a breakthrough of this magnitude should occur. The story follows Ethan Kravis, a brilliant Harvard and MIT educated scientist, as he is swept up in a world that he never thought possible. On an ordinary summer day he is invited to play a round of golf with a greatful client. Midway through the round, Ethan’s day turns into anything but ordinary. He is introduced to the world’s first geomagnetic vehicle, a mode of transportation that uses no oil. The profundity of this once in a lifetime creation catapults Ethan into a dangerous game of cat and mouse with those men that control the world’s oil supply.

When asked about his inspiration for the novel, Schan replied, “On September 5th, 2008, Hurricane Ike battered the gulf coast of the United States. As a result, there was a period of three weeks where many cities in the southern U.S. completely ran out of gasoline. As the crisis deepened, I, as many in Atlanta did during this time, stayed glued to the local news to find out when this debilitating entanglement would lift. As the days and weeks past without relief, you started to hear rumblings about the looting and fighting that ensued amongst the ordinarily calm population. In that briefest of moments, Atlanta became a faultless microcosm for what would happen in the event the world ran out of oil. The primary goal of The Loyal Traveler is to entertain. I do not consider myself an activist or environmentalist. I am a realist. The question about running out of oil is not if, but when. If the byproduct of a reader’s entertainment is that he or she, even for a split second, considers the underlying topic that The Loyal Traveler tries to cleverly cloak, then I have accomplished a much more substantial goal then originally endeavored. This element coupled with the timely nature of the incoming administrations stance on energy policy, make The Loyal Traveler a uniquely current web of social commentary.”
