OTTAWA WRITER RELEASES FIRST ONLINE NOVEL
An interview with Mark Coker, the founder of smashwords.com in the Ottawa Citizen in January led Steve Wheeler, author, to publish TOURISTS online. http://www.smashwords.com/
“There are a lot of opportunities for independent writers to publish their work despite the mess in which big print publishers find themselves” Wheeler said in Ottawa February 8 as he announced the publication of TOURISTS, a 150 page novel set in Ottawa during Winterlude.
Natives of Ottawa who are constantly exposed to politicians and lobbyists (especially those with relatives in bear country) and, annually, to Winterlude, will find a satiric point of view in TOURISTS.
When the CIA wants to build a secret air strip in bear country near Ottawa, clandestine meetings in the back of a van on the Rideau Canal, unwanted publicity and a diamond heist complicate matters.
50% of Tourists can be viewed for free. The cost is $5 American to download the whole book.
Founded in 2007, privately held smashwords.com operates a digital publishing platform and online bookstore for independent ebook authors. The free service puts authors in full control over the marketing, pricing, sampling and licensing of their words.
In addition to receiving exposure to hundreds of thousands of potential readers, authors receive 85% of the net proceeds from sales of their words. For readers, http://www.smashwords.com/
