BREAKSPOLL 2009
The 8th International Breakbeat Awards
Forging the New Sound of Breaks

Thursday 26th February 2009 @ Fabric
Friday 27th February 2009 @ matter

Breakbeat is changing all the time, and Breakspoll is changing with it. As many of the old-guard breakbeat veterans start to affiliate themselves with a teeming electro/house scene, Breakspoll will deliver and showcase an entire new breed of innovators in breakbeat DJing and production, all alongside the established names who still support and believe in Breaks. Breakspoll 2009 is dedicated to paving the way for new artists, new sounds and new influences - for a new scene.

NEW ARTISTS, NEW SOUNDS, NEW SCENE
In 2008, breaks has seen a massive resurgence in dynamic thought-provoking music, taking influences from electro, dubstep, baltimore, drum & bass and house, and using them to push the boundaries of dance music.  Whilst some jaded artists might complain that breaks has been exhausted of ideas, others have nothing but positive vibes for this vibrant music and have been busy forging a new path for breaks.

A-Skillz has smashed festivals like Glastonbury and Big Chill with his funk-tinged bloc party hip-hop influenced breaks. Rico Tubbs’ ghetto-tech, booty-bassline, rave breaks has crossed over massively with DJs like Sinden stating "Rico's the hottest producer out there." Reso has also demonstrated breakbeat's diversity and has caught the imagination of partygoers across the country by dropping his dubstep-fuelled bassline frequencies. Not forgetting N.A.P.T. who have quite literally steam-rolled the breaks scene with their quirky, funk-induced, full-throttle party tracks.

In an ever-evolving world of internet-based dance music, where widespread blogging and digital downloads constantly up the pace of change, breakbeat has provided a licence to play and sound exactly as you like, with a new breed of producers using breaks' rich diversity as the springboard for a truly creative 2008.

Breakspoll 2009 is a culmination of that year of creativity, as artists, industry insiders and media get together for the 8th International Breakbeat Awards, held at Fabric nightclub in London on 26th February, with the now traditional Breakspoll Aftershow party at Matter nightclub at the o2 the following day. Two momentous parties in two of Londons best clubs - the first event, a showcase of exciting talent and music, combined with the prestigious Breakspoll Awards Ceremony, and the second event, a veritable who's who line-up of breaks superstar DJs, coming together to support the scene.

NEW LOOK AWARDS
In keeping with this new look event, the awards themselves have new presenters - the delectable Janette Slack (who's DJ and production accomplishments more than speak for themselves, with her global DJ gigs and excellent output on Air Recordings) and Ken Mac (renowned breaks vocalist and part of Pyramid) take control of the ceremony for 2009.

The public vote starts on Monday 26th January over at breakspoll.com, lasting for 2 weeks until midnight on the 13th February, with nominations being announced a week later.

With a new image, new awards, new acts, new presenters, and a new voting system aimed at supporting this new scene, Breakspoll 2009 is going to prove that the tired, jaded, middle aged critics are wrong: Breakbeat is, more than ever, an exciting and creative form of music with a strong and passionate following. The revolution begins here: Breakspoll 2009, forging the new sound of breaks!
