This eight-week online course, Blogging 101, is the company's first foray into adult education. Having successfully completed two closed sessions of the course, Time4Learning is now opening up the next session, beginning on February 16, 2009 to the general public. The course can be found at it's online home at http://www.blogwritingcourse.com.
For brand new bloggers, or those considering entering the realm of blogging, the site also offers a free automated pre-course that will introduce them to blogging lingo, the basics of online safety, and blog creation. Then, if the student decides to continue with the Blogging 101 course, he or she will have the opportunity to actually create, write, and promote their blog under the guidance of the online instructor.
John Edelson, president of Time4Learning, believes that this course has many advantages over the trial and effort path of beginning a blog on one's own. "While everything we teach could be learned through experience and diligent reading of the web (while sorting out today's realities from the obsolete and the just plain wrong), the course succeeds at compacting the learning curve dramatically and avoiding learning much of it the "hard way". Also, the course provides enormous value by providing an initial group of readers to comment, to provide feedback, and to build community. This dramatically accelerates the development of an audience around new blogs," says Edelson
Cooperative learning seems to be at the core of the success of the course. According to Kerry Jones, an alumnus of the first session of Blogging 101, "There is nothing more helpful when you are starting up a blog than to have an immediate interactive audience. My fellow classmates gave me invaluable feedback and encouragement throughout my first several weeks of blogging." Jones has had such a positive experience with the blog that she created during the course, in fact, that she is returning to help lead the next upcoming session
The eight-week blogging course guides the learner through all of the steps needed to successfully create, maintain, and grow a blog. The following subjects are a sampling of what is covered in the Blogging 101 course:
* What Makes A Good Blog
* Developing Your Blog Identity
* Creating Your Blog
* “About Me” Pages
* Getting Started Writing
* Building Quality Content
* Hooking Your Readers
* Blogging Etiquette and Safety
* Promoting Your Blog
With it's finger on the pulse of online education, Time4Writing believes that a blog writing course is a natural extension of their current online products and services for students. Edelson says "Our company's mission has always been to use online technology to provide superior education to children at a value price. Now we are simply expanding our offerings to include a quality course that adults will find valuable and relevant, as well."
