PASO ROBLES, CA – A new wine tasting transportation service is being launched to serve the Paso Robles wine country. Unlike their competition, The Wine Line will allow tasters to hop on and hop off of the shuttle like a city bus, choose the wineries they want to visit and stay as long as they like. The door-to-door service offers an excellent way to safely taste wines without a designated driver and to pick your pace of tasting. Owner/Operator Jason Westfall and his Partner/Operator Ricky Fernandez will officially launch The Wine Line on February 20.
After a frustrating wine tasting trip with friends, Jason and his fiancé Michelle desired a better solution to organized wine tasting and the risk of drinking and driving. Private cars were expensive and large groups with guides were unappealing to them. They didn’t want to be held to a schedule or told how or what to taste. They wanted freedom of choice at a reasonable price and a safer mode of transportation. The concept of a shuttle that you could jump on and off as you wish at numerous wineries is what transpired. “The most important part of the service is we give people a safe alternative to drinking and driving” says Jason Westfall. After successfully testing the concept for a few months last year, they knew the concept could succeed.
The service will initially operate on a circular route near Hwy 46 in western Paso Robles with plans to offer two other routes in the works. The Wine Line has partnered with over 20 premier wineries as destination points. The two vans will stop at each winery approximately every 40 minutes. The service operates much like a city bus with scheduled stops throughout the day. Their clients can either ride to the next winery of choice or stay longer and wait for the next shuttle. Standard operating days are Thursday though Sunday (10am – 6pm). The shuttles will pick up clients at their hotel or residence and safely deliver them back when they so desire. The cost for all day service is $39.95 per person, but Paso Robles, Templeton and Atascadero residents, as well as military, get a $10 discount off the regular price.
The two modern shuttles operate from their home base in Paso Robles. The modern Dodge Sprinter vans are going to be run on environmentally friendly biodiesel that is made by the owners. “We wanted to make as little impact on the environment as possible” said Westfall, “and we figured that people would feel better about their choice of transportation if we went green.” The vans are already equipped to use the biofuel and they anticipate the switch over in the next 30 days.
