The financial services practice of OCI has developed, and today released, an open source version of the FAST standard. It is called QuickFAST.

Because FAST not specific to market data or the financial industry, there are opportunities for using FAST in a wide variety of message intensive situations.
The companion to a market data standard is a trading protocol. The Financial Information eXchange (FIX) Protocol is a "language" which defines specific kinds of electronic messages for communicating securities transactions between two parties. OCI also supports the open source implementations of FIX in both C++ and Java. These implementations are known as QuickFIX and QuickFIX/J.
The initial version of the C++ QuickFAST runs on Linux and Windows. There is also a .NET wrapped version for clients who wish to use it in a more native Windows manner.
