The world-famous Rio de Janeiro Carnival gets underway on Friday February 20th and continues until the following Tuesday attracting approximately 500,000 visitors to Brazil.
The Daily Telegraph describes the festivities as “the carnival to end all carnivals” and the official website adds “The Rio Carnival is not only the biggest carnival [and the] benchmark against which every other carnival is compared, but also one of the most interesting artistic events on the globe."
The Sambadromo, the main party venue, is the place to be, especially on the Sunday night into Monday morning procession, which is the highlight of all the parades. However, the tickets for admission can be expensive, although, many tour operators provide special carnival trips to Brazil, which include several nights in Rio.
Recent figures from Halifax show that the value of the pound against the Brazilian real has risen by 15.3% over the last six months, making the country increasingly affordable for British visitors. This coupled with the increased numbers of visitors during Carnival season make Brazil an appetising prospect for development investment.
