Somerset based journalist Ross Hemsworth who presents the worldwide syndicated radio show Now THAT'S Weird, has gained the backing of human right law specialists Bindmans Solicitors to take to the UK government to court.
Ross has been a vocal supporter of the alleged hacker Gary McKinnon saying that as the crime was committed in London, the case should be tried in the UK and that the attempted extradition breaches Mr McKinnon's civil liberties. To that end Mr Hemsworth has investigated the wording of the "one-sided" extradition treaty and is to contest it's legality in the courts.
Mr Hemsworth released this sttement from his Glastonbury home earlier today:-
As a journalist who has supported the call for Gary McKinnon to be tried here in the UK, I now have the backing of a major London law firm to take the UK government to court and challenge the one-sided and unjust extradition treaty that is at the very heart of this case. The treaty is yet another breach of our civil liberties and MUST be contested.
Once upon a time in a land not so far away from home, a British passport meant PROTECTION for the bearer from problems with foreign nations and the local embassy would provide a place of sanctuary. Now however, our government seem only too keen to throw our citizens to the lions the moment America picks up the phone, yet would THEY release one of their citizens quite so easily? Not in a million years, they still have PATRIOTISM and defend their own.
I am now raising the funds needed to proceed to issuing papers against the government through donations on my radio show website and it will not be long now, before we the people take on the might of Parliament and question why our elected representatives are NOT representing us in the manner we would expect.
Remember the words of the song Rule Britannia - "Britain never ever will be slaves"!
