Property in Costa Calida has recently gone off the radar of Spanish property buyers but there are a lot of factors that make Costa Calida worth a very good look when thinking about buying property in Spain according to Susan Suspenda the Marketing and Operations manager for Spanish Hot Properties.

Murcia is the fastest growing province in Southern Spain. This expansion is expected to remain strong during the next decade as a result of the regional government’s investment in the region.  The government is injecting €1000 million into the area notably in infrastructure, industry, commerce and hotels, agriculture and water, homes and tourism.  A key element in this is the new airport expected to deliver an increase in gross national product for the area of 8 per cent and an increase in tourism of 40 per cent.  In 2007, Murcia’s population was over 1.4 million ranking it as the ninth-largest city in Spain. Additionally, tourism increased by 18 per cent in 2007 compared to an average of 2 per cent for Spain with tourist spending showing an increase of 30 per cent.

Whilst the second home market is suffering, this is not true of the domestic market in this region of Spain.  Demand for property in Murcia from indigenous Spaniards is strong with 80 per cent of sales to Spaniards in Q1 2007. Professionals in particular are moving to Murcia as a result of the continued increase in businesses attracted to the region.

Improved transport links are also evidence of the region’s growth.  Murcia-San Javier Airport is 20 minutes away, the world famous La Manga club, is about 30 minutes by car and the airport at Alicante; frequently used by travellers to Murcia is under an hour away.  Importantly, the new international airport planned for Corvera and due for completion in 2010 is 15 minutes away and is expected to accept flights direct from the USA.  An estimated three million passengers are expected in the first year.

The city provides all the amenities and services you would expect to find in a modern city sustaining interests of professionals.  There is a new modern shopping complex which is the largest in Europe,which incorporates the cities football stadium,  a multi screen cinema complex and a water park. Brand names like Ikea, Primart, Mothercare, Zara, Eroski are amongst the hundreds of modern outlets. Large state of the art modern and efficient hospital facilities are available as well as many schools including international schools, such as Kings College and El Limonar.  There are several commercial centres and over 45 golf complexes in project including all the Jack Nicklaus designed Polaris World courses, Roda and Corvera Golf designed by Sam Torence, Paraleja, by Seve Ballasteros, Tres Molinos Greg Norman designed and Hacienda del Alomo. Murcia is accepted as the new golf capital of Europe and Torreguil is set conveniently less than 30 minutes from all the above courses.

Costa Calida still has many benefits according to Susana “and you can still buy Spanish property in this region for around €100,000 which is pretty good even in these depressed times” Susana continued
