Most wouldn’t associate a nineteenth century Romantic composer’s birthday being celebrated in concert with the big game coming on Sunday. In fact, many would see these as complete opposites, one a small classical affair, and the other, the country’s biggest sports event.
Behind the idea is Gregory Singer, conductor of the Manhattan Symphonie, who this weekend will debut the Symphonie’s season at Bargemusic (Fulton Ferry Landing, Brooklyn, New York) by performing selected pieces of Mendelssohn, and his great inspiration Bach, adequately in honor of the great composer’s 200th birthday.
Now what does this have to do with the Steelers and Cardinals playing on Sunday? “We’re doing it in football uniforms...”
Invitation is open to the public, concert times are Saturday 31st at 8pm and Sunday, February 1st at 3pm. For reservations, call 718.624.2083 or 718.624.4061, or
