Chocolate truffles have long been a staple of Valentine’s Day giving. The price for hand rolled truffles varies greatly, starting at around $1 each.. and can cost up to $250 each (World’s most expensive truffle, Knipschildt Chocolatier)
... but did you know that you can make these delicacies at home, with common ingredients?
Marie Porter of Celebration Generation has developed a series of recipes for making truffles at home, using chocolate chips. Chocolate chips are a highly unusual medium for truffle making, but they are easy to find, and lack the sticker shock that comes with the more traditional chocolate options.
“Generally speaking, anyone making truffles professionally will use very high end, usually imported chocolate. Celebration Generation is no different in that respect... but I wanted to develop a recipe that anyone and everyone can make at home, with good results”, states Porter.
“The benefit really does go beyond just the cost, I believe. I think that making truffles together is a fun activity for any couple. Picking out flavors, coming up with a plan, rolling the truffles... it brings people closer together, it’s a bonding activity. Food, eating, cooking together.. It’s all great for bonding, whether as a family or as a romantic thing. Also, working with chocolate is sexy! If you’re making them as a surprise, expect a great reaction. It’s a really sweet gesture to put the effort forth and craft them yourself. It will definitely be an appreciated gift!”
Celebration Generation’s DIY truffle recipes include flavors such as Dark Chocolate Espresso, Bananas Foster, White Chocolate Almond Amaretto, and Chai - flavors modeled after her bakery’s most popular wedding cake flavors.
