Business, Finance And Health Care Titans Honored At The One Hundred Black Men 29th Annual Benefit

Recognizing Our Past, Shaping Our Future” is the theme for the One Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York City (OHBMNY) 29th Annual Benefit Gala to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the New York Hilton Grand Ballroom

“Recognizing Our Past, Shaping Our Future”
is the theme for the  One Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York City (OHBMNY) 29th Annual Benefit Gala honoring:
•   Hon. Thomas P. DiNapoli, New York State Comptroller, with the Distinguished Service Award;
•   R. Donahue Peebles, CEO and Chairman, The Peebles Corporation, with the Corporate Citizen Award;
•   Malcolm D. Reid, M.D., M.P.P., Chairman, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, St. Luke's - Roosevelt Hospital Center, with the Distinguished Physician Community Service Award; and
•   John W. Rogers, Jr., Chairman and CEO, Ariel Investments, with the Corporate Education Award.
The Black Tie gala will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the New York Hilton Grand Ballroom, 1335 Avenue of the Americas between 53rd and 54th Streets.   The event features a VIP and a general reception at 6:30 p.m.  Dinner and awards begin at 7:30 p.m.  followed by dancing.
“These four men are giants in business, finance and healthcare and their work positively impacts our core program areas—mentoring, education, health & wellness, and economic development. As we celebrate more than four decades of achievement, One Hundred Black Men, Inc. is delighted to honor the accomplishments of these four outstanding men,” said OHBMNY president Philip L. Banks Jr.

Established in 1963, One Hundred Black Men, Inc. of New York City is the founding and largest chapter of an international, not-for-profit membership organization comprised of 10,000 men who share the common goal of improving the quality of life for Blacks and other minorities.
The organization holds an annual benefit to fund its programs, which include Adopt-A-School, SAT prep courses, mentoring, tutoring and college scholarships. One Hudnred Black Men, Inc. recently established its second single-gender public school, The Eagle Academy for Young Men II, in Brooklyn, with a focus on academic excellence, leadership and character development.
