The Martin C. Kauffman 100 Club of Alameda County was surprised by a bequest of $235,000 from the estate of Dorothy Cleyman in memory of her daughter Lezlee Davis. Dorothy, who died on May 9, 2008 wanted to honor her daughter, Lezlee, who was a Communication Specialist with the San Leandro Police Department for 21 years. Lezlee died unexpectedly on July 29, 2001.
Robert Byers, President of the 100 Club, expressed the deep appreciation of the club. He said, “This gift will be used to finance our mission of providing financial, educational and emotional support for the families of peace officers and firefighters of Alameda County who gave their lives in the line of duty.”
The 100 Club was formed in 1974 and now has nearly 1,000 dues paying members. Since its founding, it has given financial support to 35 families and has helped over 50 children through higher education.
Byers also said that the Board of Directors of the club has voted to present a plaque to the San Leandro Police Department memorializing Lezlee Davis and the generous gift of her mother, Dorothy Cleyman, to aid those who have sacrificed so much for all of us.
