Dr. Allan Acton of Cary Family Dental Receives International Oral implantology Award

Jan. 27, 2009 - PRLog -- CARY, NC – Cary Family Dental is pleased to announce that Dr. Allan Acton has received a Fellowship Award from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).  The ICOI was founded in 1972 and has 12,000 members worldwide in 89 counties.  It is the world’s largest dental implant organization, as well as the world’s largest provider of continuing dental implant education.  The organization is devoted to providing implant education to the dental industry in order to better serve patients.

The awarding of Fellowship status is one of the highest honors a professional society, such as the ICOI, can bestow on a dental professional involved in oral implantology. Nominees achieve Fellowship status through their efforts in education, research and actual clinical experiences. All Fellows of the ICOI may designate “FICOI” after their names.  In the United States, there are currently 2,582 active Fellows in the ICOI.

Dr. Acton is a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia and completed his advanced dental education residency at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.  Last year, Dr. Acton graduated with honors from The Hornbrook Group’s distinguished national training program.  He also completed training on the DuraTHIN veneer and is currently only one of four dentists in North Carolina certified to provide DuraTHIN veneers, with Dr. Acton being the only dentist certified in the Triangle and central North Carolina area.  In late 2007, Dr. Acton completed a nine-month implant continuum (216 hours) taught by the Triangle Dental Institute in Research Triangle Park, NC.

The ICOI is a tax-exempt, non-profit, dental educational organization. It is dedicated to communicating scientific knowledge and improving the clinical practice of dental implantology worldwide. The ICOI has public information programs and publishes a quarterly journal and magazine.
