The New Year’s gym rush is in full effect. Go to any local club and you’ll find that every single treadmill is occupied with someone desperately trying to run away the holiday pounds. Unfortunately, those 30min on the treadmill probably won’t make one ounce of difference.
“This is actually the single biggest myth in fat-loss,” says Josef Brandenburg of TheBodyYouWant.com. “Research in the journal Obesity shows that if a man does 60min of aerobic exercise 6 days per week for an entire YEAR he will drop LESS than 7 pounds. So, if he had 20 to lose he’d need to do over 18 HOURS of aerobics per week AND wait a year to get there. No thank you,” says Brandenburg.
• Its not how long you work, but how smart you work that determines your results. “When I was obese I used to workout for 11+ hours per week. To get lean I cut that back to 4hrs per week and actually ate more. I didn’t just do less exercise, I eliminated all of the junk training – aerobics – and focused on the training that gets results, metabolic resistance training,” says Brandenburg.
• Researchers at Laval University in Quebec have shown that you can actually burn 450% more body in half the time with very high intensity interval training instead of aerobics.
• One reason aerobics is so inefficient is because you only benefit during the workout. Whereas with metabolic resistance training can boost your metabolism for as much as 36 HOURS after your workout according to researchers from Ohio University.
