Want a snippit? Here is a recent entry from one of our members:
“I am bipolar. Meds for it made me more ill. After changing MDs (going to a reputable naturopath as my MD did not take my side effect complaints seriously), the connection of hypothyroid, candida (sic) and gluten intolerance were made. The gluten-intolerance prevented absorpotion (sic) of iron, b12, and a slough of other things. They either exasterbated (sic) the bipolar systems, or mimicked (sic) them. Treating the celiac, candida (sic), vitamin deficiencies has done more to lower my bipolar symptoms than pharmaceuticals ever have (have spent about 3 years on them, following instructions to the t). This may not be the answer for you, but if you are bipolar and looking for another option to lower yous (sic) symptoms, trying gluten-free doesn’t hurt.
"I also strongly believe that information on this connection is not as readily available as most research for bipolar is funded by pharmaceutical companies. The only cure for gluten-intolerance is a gluten-free diet. There is no money to be made off of this cure.”
Here is another sample:
“Interesting article, I am celiac, have a serious candida (sic) overgrowth. I am just realizing that I have hypothyroid as well. Don’t know about bipolar -hope I don’t have to add that to the list. I’m hoping the depression is from hypothyroid. Thanks for your effort in this.”
