PacketLight Networks Ltd., a leading provider of CWDM/DWDM transport devices for high throughput data, storage, TDM and ATM connectivity (www.packetlight.com), announced today the availability of the new DWDM EDFA Solution PL-1000IL family of Boosters, Inlines, and Pre-Amplifiers.  PL-1000IL is protocol-transparent and data-rate independent C-band 1U chassis that supports single or dual remotely managed and configurable EDFAs, high throughput data connectivity over large distances in DWDM technology either for single fiber or dual fiber applications.

In today’s world, not only the bandwidth requirements grow to include NGN and triple play, but also the connectivity distances and service data rates.  Today’s customer requirements call for connecting sites over 160km without intermediary nodes while transferring large capacities of data, voice and video over a single fiber optic cable.

PL-1000IL is designed to extend the power link budget of DWDM solutions in requirements of larges distances and/or in challenging link attenuation caused by old fiber infrastructures in a cost effective manner. The PL-1000IL provides amplification for a range of optical solutions starting from 4 wavelengths to up to 32 wavelengths and incorporates 3 main types of low-noise EDFAs (Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers) Booster, Inline and Pre-Amplifier.

Depending on the customer requirements, the PL-1000IL can operate in APC or AGC modes. The optical amplifier gain can be configured by the user according to the network topology and attenuation. The EDFAs are gain flattened and have low Optical Signal to Noise Ratio (OSNR), thus enabling cascading of several EDFAs to form amplified link over long distance. Additionally, the Optical Supervioty Channel for remote management makes it ideal to operate in Inline mode maintaining full manageability and configuration while installing and operating the network. The PL-1000IL supports also eye safety feature which allows automatic shutdown of the EDFA when the output connector is not properly terminated or connected, in order to protect the user.

PL-1000IL is part of PacketLight’s product portfolio which includes 10Gb and sub-10Gb CWDM and DWDM solutions.  Therefore, PL-1000IL offers the same carrier class quality and reliability as other products in PacketLight’s WDM product line.  PL-1000IL comes with dual AC or DC pluggable power supply and pluggable FAN unit.  It supports single and dual fiber operation, and offers full remote monitoring on the input/output power through PacketLight’s user friendly GUI enable management system.  The units can also be managed through any third party SNMP based management tool.
