Tuv Sud Bangladesh (Pvt) Limited, a concern of Germany based TÜV SÜD, a major international service group, launched its operation in Bangladesh on Tuesday.
Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany in Bangladesh Frank Meyke inaugurated its operation formally in Dhaka with the hope that that it would be able to improve quality and efficiency of local products and production units.
Tuv Sud is a 140-old company that now operates over 41 countries of Europe, America, Africa and Asia with more than 13,000 employees and through over 600 locations.
Tuv Sud is a very well known group in Germany and its presence in Bangladesh would certainly help the local service providers and manufacturing units, said the German envoy while delivering his speech as chief guest.
Exports from Bangladesh to Germany has been increasing and it is expected to increase further in near future, said Meyke while talking about bilateral business relationship between Bangladesh and Germany.
While delivering his speech as chief speaker President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury said the local garment factories have advanced a great deal in recent years in terms of quality and compliance issues. He, however, lamented that the local companies are now suffering for the death of skilled manpower to serve the potential sector.
“There has been a 25 per cent shortage of skilled manpower in the sector,” said the BGMEA President. He further said that the country has witnessed a huge export growth in RMG sector in the first five months of the current fiscal year despite having a recession across the world.
He also welcomed Tuv Sud in the country hoping that it would be able to help the local RMG units. The Tuv Sud officials said the services of the company in Bangladesh will include quality management certifications, social compliance audits, testing and inspection services for textiles, food and others, and training services, the company officials said.
