Funny Clips & Wind911 Can Be Worth Millions in the Internet Domain World

Internet domains (web addresses) cost only $10, but can be sold for millions. A little bit of creativity goes a long way, especially in these hard economic times.

Jan. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- These may be horrible economic times, but for anyone with a bit of creativity, there’s plenty of easy money to be made.

Just this week, wire services reported that a guy who bought the domain name (Internet address) GeorgeWBushLibrary.com for $5 sold it to the foundation running George Bush’s presidential library for a whopping $35,000.

That may sound like a lot of (easy) money, but how about $1 million? That’s what the owner of FunnyClips.com expects to get in an online auction that runs January 29 – February 5. The auction, named DOMAINfest Global, is run by the domain company Moniker.

Ted Anderson, owner of the Funny Clips domain, says he intended to create a website where people would post their own funny videos and share in the site’s advertising revenue. “We expected to compete with YouTube,” he says, “but our programmer disappeared. Now we’re selling the domain at auction.”

Anderson figures FunnyClips.com will sell for seven figures -- “As people recognize that domains appreciate so much faster than real estate and stocks, the already healthy demand for domains is soaring.“

Recent domain sales include Fund.com at $9,999,950; Answers.Travel for $3.3 million; DataRecovery.com at $1,659,000; and FinancialAid.com for $800,000.

Domain expert Bill Edwards writes on his blog (http://domaineer.blogspot.com/)  that President Obama’s push for alternative energy guarantees  a booming demand for wind and solar domains.

“The domains AAAWindEnergy.com and AAAWindTurbines.com are sure to be attractive to newly formed companies selling energy-generating windmills,” he says. “WindZoning.com will attract lots of folks with questions about where it’s legal to install a wind turbine. The same for SitingWindTurbines.com.”

Edwards points to DoItYourselfWindmills.com as the “perfect fit” for a company selling kits to the public. “Especially valuable are Wind911.com and Wind100.com – they’re both short, easy to remember, and could be built into informative sites with lots of advertising,” he says, adding that each of these domains can be purchased at those addresses.

Since new domains can be created for as little as $10 at sites like Dotster, the opportunity to make an instant fortune in domains is within the reach of everyone.
