Cherry Blossoms Follow on the Heels of Inauguration

WASHINGTON, DC: Ginger Boutique and Charles Schwartz & Son Jewelers are proud to welcome their new spring jewelry collections, featuring the iconic tree of Washington, D.C—the Cherry Blossom.   The 2009 Cherry Blossom Festival stages from March 28 through April 12, 2009, with the official parade staging on April 4.

Jeweler Suzanne Somersall (www.suzannesomersall.com), a mainstay at Bethesda Row’s Ginger Boutique, introduces silver, gold, and diamond cherry blossom silhouettes in her “Sakura” collection. The collection was inspired while she living in Japan, and consists of earrings, necklaces, and rings, ranging in price from $85 to $13,400.  Ginger owner Gretchen Hitchner, a former Congressional press secretary who opened her high-style and eco-friendly shop in March of 2008, explains that these pieces “are truly Washington, great for natives and visitors alike.  They truly capture the spirit of those beautiful spring weeks in Washington.”

On Thursday, April 2 from 6-8, Ms. Somersall will make a personal appearance at Ginger, kicking off a trunk show lasting through Sunday, April 4.  The opening evening will feature cocktails, cherry blossom cupcakes plus a 10% discount of the entire Sakura line..

In addition, Ginger will be featuring fashionable stationer R. Nichols’ Washington, DC card sets.  R. Nichols creator Nick Hanzlik, whose work has graced the cover of the bestselling book French Women Don’t Get Fat and who counts Tyra Banks and Sheryl Crow amongst his fashionable clients, created Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial cards.  Both cards feature his iconic women in front of the memorials; the Jefferson Card does such with Cherry Blossoms.  “They are such an intregral part of Washington, so I had to incorporate them,” says Hanzlik, who originally hails from DC.

Charles Schwartz and Son jewelers, known for their estate pieces and exclusive lines, is pleased to offer Oscar Heyman’s pink sapphire and diamond cherry blossom brooch for spring. An elaborate handcrafted piece by the internationally-regarded designer, the platinum brooch is set with 18.71 carats of pink sapphires and .79 carats of round diamonds, and retails for $36,000.
