Re/Kast Launches Re/Kast Live™ Real-Time Stream Transcoding Platform

Re/Kast Live™ enables broadcasters to leverage their existing MPEG-2 infrastructure and rebroadcast live TV and Radio over the Internet.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jan 20, 2009 – Re/Kast (www.rekast.eu) today announced the launch of Re/Kast Live™, a real-time stream transcoding platform designed to support the rebroadcasting of TV and Radio for use on PCs, TVs and/or 3G mobile phones.  Used by broadcasters, satellite operators, teleports and streaming service providers, Re/Kast Live™ takes care of all the decoding, encoding, content distribution and management tasks involved in delivering live TV and Radio broadcasts to the consumer regardless of the final network or device used.

With the delivery of live programming over the Internet becoming an increasingly important source of revenue for broadcasters, many are realizing that their legacy infrastructure is not flexible enough to support the re-encoding of live video and audio for Internet use.

“Supporting all popular web and mobile formats as standard, Re/Kast Live™ enables broadcasters to leverage their existing MPEG-2 infrastructure and immediately deliver channels across any number of different delivery platforms“ said Ben Lippolt, Senior Product Manager. “Re/Kast Live™ is an extremely versatile rebroadcasting platform; with no limitation on the number of input or output streams that a single instance of the Re/Kast Live™ application can handle, it’s one of the most flexible and affordable transcoding solutions available on the market today.”

“Re/Kast has a wealth of experience in the broadcasting world and Re/Kast Live™ has been developed to fill a major gap in that market,” said Ian Kain who has led the Re/Kast project team developing the platform. “The future of TV and Radio broadcasting is the Internet and Re/Kast Live™ allows broadcasters to confidently transition towards this future.”
