By: 10-4 Communications Press Office: 336-282-6141 x 140 Public Information: ten4communications@ UPRITE LIONS HOST A CELEBRATION OF HIP-HOP AND URBAN ARTISTRY At Renaissance Jazz Café Greensboro, NC — Greensboro music powerhouses Shef Seenya, Trice and B-Star of the group UpRite Lions will be hosting a celebration of hip-hop and urban artistry at Renaissance Jazz Café. Doors open at 9pm with performances beginning at 10; Admission is free for ladies, and $5 for gentlemen at the door. The event, scheduled for Friday, January 30, is intended as a showcase for the Triad’s diverse and eclectic underground music talents. Among the many local performers slated to lend their skills in support of the URL show are such notables as nationally acclaimed spoken-word artist Dasan Ahanu and classical phenom, electric violinist Marta Richardson. “We wanted an opportunity to highlight not only our own unique artistry and sound, but also the diversity and sense of community that our interpretation of hip-hop has come to represent,” commented B-Star. “At one time, Greensboro’s downtown district served as a crossroads where countless forms of music and art collided. We’d like to bring that type of collaborative artistry back to the forefront by encouraging local venues to open their doors to our sound. No matter what genres you typically enjoy, you’re certain to hear their influences reflected in our music.” The UpRite Lions have long been a staple in the Triad arts community, lending their unique talents to numerous events including regional beat battles, community workshops and theater productions. While their music has already garnered national recognition — allowing them to beat out thousands to place as finalists in such fierce competitions as XM radio’s ‘Show Us What You’ve Got’ competition — they take equal pride in opportunities to display their craft in the city they call home. They are especially pleased to be one of the first hip-hop groups to headline an event at the Renaissance. For more information on the event or artists, please contact C.D.
