The buzz is building around LACHI, a powerful new female singer-songwriter with a lot to say and a potent story to back it up. Born in Maryland to Nigerian parents, LACHI brings her personal story to life in her songs. Unique, brave and inspirational, LACHI is not like anyone else you’ve ever seen or heard.
“I have a low vision condition called coloboma where my retina did not fully develop,” she explains. “Growing up I was ostracized due to this condition, and my experiences serve as the inspiration for much of my music,” LACHI says. “I was unable to speak until I was three and a half, but that changed when I was introduced to music.” Never hindered by her condition and buoyed by her love of music, LACHI moved to New York after college in North Carolina to pursue a Master’s Degree at NYU and became part of the city’s invigorating, lively music scene.
LACHI’s critically acclaimed songs address the societal concerns of a strong woman. “Ugly Beautiful,” the title track of her upcoming debut album, discusses these issues. “I find that I am constantly trying to change myself for the approval of the mirror society reflects back to me, and I ask myself ‘why?’” The track “Naked Man,” written shortly after her move to New York, features LACHI’s observation that “people are so guarded, hidden behind so many barriers, posing and afraid, clothed from head to toe in insecurities.”
