QuiltBlockLibrary.com offers free quilt block pattern and new video showing how to sew the Tea Party Quilt Block, a traditional 5 patch quilt block.
Since January is National Hot Tea Month, Penny Halgren, master quilt block maker, took the opportunity to demonstrate sewing a traditional patchwork quilt block in keeping with the theme.
“Like they say – ‘Better Late than Never.’ Here it is the 19th of January, National Hot Tea Month is more than half over, and we are just beginning the celebration. Or, maybe we are a year early for the 2010 Celebration of National Hot Tea Month” mused Halgren.
Quilt block patterns are made by dividing the block into a grid with the same number of patches across as there are up and down.
The Tea Party Quilt Block is a fairly simple quilt block to make, even though it uses several different fabrics – 5 in all. It features a square in a square center design which is surrounded by small square and half-square triangle patches.
Many quilt blocks are evenly divided; however the square on square center of the Tea Party Quilt Pattern contains larger patches than the patches around the outside of the block.
For some quilters, this may appear more difficult to sew together. However, the video demonstration will how easy this block is to piece, and knowing how to sew this block will make other blocks easier to sew as well.
There are many different ways to sew half-square triangles together. Some will increase the accuracy of your piecing, and others are speed piecing methods.
www.QuiltBlockLibrary.com offers a video demonstrating 6 different methods to sew half-square triangles together as a bonus for investing in pattern credits. The details are available to registered users of the site.
QuiltBlockLibrary.com is a resource for hundreds of quilt block patterns. Each pattern comes in several different sizes. For example, most 5 patch quilt blocks are available with full size templates in 5, 10, and 15 inch block patterns.
