Whittier, CA, Kenia Davalos, was appointed as “one of the first and youngest Latinas as an instructor at UCLA extension programs in the business, investment and legal department.”
She will be spearheading a new program for women from “financial health to wealth”. Mrs. Davalos states “ I am blessed to have this opportunity to empower women, especially mompreneurs, single mothers and women” to provide them stronger financial acumen to make it in these difficult times.” Despite, her personal challenges public divorce, closing of a business and starting all over in life with children that have been presented to her in life, she sees them as making her more resilient for others. Mrs. Davalos recognizes that to whom much is given much is required. She states, “I understand the value and the importance of my role as a young Latina making entry in higher education and the impact I will have on many lives and the institution. Sometimes, when I walk through the halls and get mistaken for the student instead the instructor, I know my value and mark in society.” Because of this, she wants all women especially underserved women to understand their value to society. Mrs. Davalos is so committed to the program, she was successful in having scholarships provided for women who qualify to attend her next class.
Recently, Mrs. Davalos was also honored and recognized by the Regional Hispanic Chamber as the Community Service of the Year for 2008, for all her community service work with women owned business and the Latino community.
