MIAMI, FL – South Florida mothers and fathers will be the beneficiaries of an award-winning neighborhood-
Supported by a three-year, $75,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Informed Families will be delivering its Parent Peer Group "Train The Trainer " Curriculum to parents of children ages 0-5 in several local communities, such as Wynwood, Aventura, Coral Gables, Doral and Pinecrest. By the end of the third grant year, 480 parents in Miami will be reached.
The Parent Peer Group “Train The Trainer” program is a science-based, proactive program that provides parents the skills to set boundaries and monitor their children’s behaviors. Program participants will be educated on drug and underage drinking prevention, through classes on teen brain development, media literacy, social norms and forming parent peer groups. The program was recently honored with the “Best Practices in Prevention” award from the Department of Children & Families and the Florida Alcohol & Drug Abuse Association.
“Informed Families is grateful to the Knight Foundation for this very special grant award,” says President & CEO Peggy B. Sapp. “It is never too early to begin setting boundaries and monitoring behavior. Children have the right to grow up drug-free – and we as adults have the responsibility to make that happen.”
