What does it take to successfully publish a bestseller? While many articles promise to give you step-by-step instructions for successfully publishing your book, and some even pledge to help you create bestsellers, when it comes right down to it, most formulas don’t work.
I would like to introduce you to one formula for potentially writing bestsellers, that’s been kept a secret for too long. Is it a proven method for producing bestsellers?
What is the powerful industry secret that authors use to sell millions of books, and dominate the all-time bestseller list? Are you ready for it? Here it is: If you want to write books that really sell, and consistently top the bestseller chart, then you need to go clean!
What does it mean to go clean? Exactly what it implies: if you want to drive your next book to the top of the sales charts, you need to write clean, creatively told stories, that leave sex, violence and offensive language out of them, and instead, rely upon strong character development, and well-written scripts, to exercise their reader’s imagination.
Am I serious? I certainly am. You’ve probably heard the claim, “Clean books don’t sell.” But that’s just not true! In fact, according to publisher’s sales data, creating bestsellers doesn’t require the insertion of blatantly immoral or questionable content.
Can that claim be validated? It certainly can. Current sales data proves that inserting smut in books is a needless endeavor. In fact, you only need to browse the list of all-time, and current bestsellers, to discover for yourself that clean books really do sell.
All-time bestseller lists reveal that “nine of the top ten” top selling books were smut free. How’s that for a good start? But let’s not stop there, it gets even better: fully 22 out of 25, and 44 of the top 50 all-time bestselling books claim to be free of sexual innuendo, senseless violence and foul language.
Tom Cannon, author of numerous motivational books, chose to model his newly-released novel, Mountain Empire, on the ‘go clean’ formula.
In a recent interview, Dr. Cannon stated; “How refreshing it is, when authors actually use their creativity to write successful books, instead of relying upon clichéd, and cookie-cutter storylines laden with sex, violence, and offensive language. I urge authors to use their creative writing skills to produce quality books the entire family can enjoy, rather than smut novels that benefit no one.”
As more bookstores flood their shelves with morally-deficient books, an increasing number of people are turning elsewhere to purchase their reading materials. That probably explains the explosion of sales among small and independent publishers, like Destiny Ministry Press and Preacher’s Kid Press. Creative writers don’t use unnecessary or offensive crutches to make their stories great, or help their books become popular. Consistently, great writers find a way to make their characters come to life, create memorable plots and storylines, and do it without the use of unnecessary crudities.
What kind of writer are you? Do you have a good story to tell? If you do, then use your own style to tell your story – but leave the crutches at home.
Well-written, clean-told tales are gaining popularity. The reason for that is simple: people from every demographic can identify with the moral code of clean-told stories. Not convinced? Then let me put it another way: Most readers are not heartless killers, they don’t swear like sailors, or sleep around with every warm body that comes along, so why would they want their heroes or heroines to do it?
Whether you’re an established author, or hope to enter the field, then I hope you will make full use of your creative abilities, and choose to go the clean route. Statistics prove that readers will rejoice, and buy your books, if you do.
Then again, considering how many bestselling books already adhere to this policy, it just makes good sense. And don’t forget - when you go clean, and tell it right, you will be successful, in more ways than one.
