Jan. 16, 2009 - PRLog -- The 25th anniversary of the consecration to the episcopate of the Rt. Rev. Leo Frade, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida will be marked on Sunday, January 25th, 2009. The diocese will celebrate the occasion with a festive Eucharistic service at Trinity Cathedral, 464 NE 16 Street, Miami, at 4:00 p.m.

The Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, the Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, will be the preacher.  Parishioners and friends from throughout South Florida and beyond, as well as bishops from the Episcopal Church and other provinces of the Anglican Communion, including the Rt. Rev. Miguel Tamayo, bishop of Cuba, are expected to attend.

Vouchers will be available at the service for reduced rate parking at the Omni Garage, across N. Bayshore Drive from the Cathedral.

Frade was consecrated January 25, 1984, in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, by then Presiding Bishop John Maury Allin. For the next 16 1/2 years he served as the bishop of Honduras, and began his episcopate in Southeast Florida on September 16, 2000. He is now the senior bishop with jurisdiction in the House of Bishops of The Episcopal Church.

The Cuban-born bishop is well known for his involvement with the rescue of Cuban migrants at sea during the Mariel Boatlift and for his work with Our Little Roses Ministries, a home and school for at-risk girls founded by his wife, Diana Dillenberger Frade, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras.  His tenure as bishop of Southeast Florida has been marked by an emphasis on mission, with an expansion of Spanish and Creole language ministries and social outreach programs throughout the diocese.
