Lunal New Year of Vietnamese is a week party with family grouped together and having food and drink, or roam around to give new year congratulation and best wishes to all people they know. It is often at the end of January or February and Vietnamese called “Tet”. Tet is difference with Westerner New Year because of its decoration like Mandarin tree, Flowers, Incenses, golden and silve paper money, and compose parallel sentences, those are present for good luck, fresh life, having party and join the cheerful with family ancestry, and custom of best wishes in red paper. In Tet, it is not enough if we don’t say about the Earth cake -“Banh Chung” which all people use to thank to Mother of Earth and ancestors for a great harvest year and fulfill of happiness. Flower Work and Market before Tet – 1day tour (from 21st Jan to 25th Jan 2009)
Flower in the New Years is not only for decoration the house, the altars, but also the fresh spirit of the coming year. It brings the optimistic, joy of living, and reminds family about that all the year. Mandarin tree is difference; it brings the hope of good luck by the imagination of how the tree looks like. The flowers of Mandarin tree give the incoming year, buds give news and more luck, the green fruits give the great future income, and the ripening fruits is the real windfall come to the family.
In the morning:
8:00AM – After having breakfast at your hotel, we take a cyclo to a local family where you meet and talk about their garden.
9:00AM – help them to take flowers to the markets, stand there to sell flower in 20minutes then roam around the market.
11:00AM – come back to the flower seller house, prepare lunch with Banh Chung (Earth cake) and listen to the guide about its legend since 2000 years ago. Prepare some more traditional food like salty onion, sticky rice and pottery pork, cooking.
11:30AM - Having lunch with family and guide.
In the afternoon:
1:00PM – Having Vietnamese tea or coffee in a local bar or at house of the family
2:00PM – Say good bye the family and roam around villages where they plan flower and mandarin tree. You can work with the local people where you suddenly see at their gardens.
4:00PM – Return to your hotel by taxi.
