A rebar, or reinforcing bar, is a common steel bar, and is commonly used in reinforced concrete and reinforced masonry structures. It is usually formed from carbon steel, and is given ridges for better mechanical anchoring into the concrete. It can also be described as reinforcement or reinforcing steel. In Australia it is colloquially known as reo.
The main reason for developing cracks is due to rusting of the iron present in steel rebars used in concrete. This rusting takes place due to the combined effect of atmospheric oxygen and moisture which react with iron and form iron oxide rust.
Locations close to sea face an additional problem of chloride attack which further increases the vulnerability of steel rebar rusting.
Extensive research carried out to face this challenge has resulted in a unique chemical product CONCARE which increases the life of the steel rebars 5 times. The treatment of steel rebars merely requires 125 ml of CONCARE for half bag containing 25 kg of cement or 250 ml for a full bag containing 50 kg of cement. The treatment is so simple and takes no additional time.
The use of CONCARE does not change the physical properties of the concrete such as 3 day / 7 day / 28 day compressive strength, tensile strength etc. The corrosion resistant properties of CONCARE results in a durability factor of 7 after 3 years which is a remarkable feature of the product. The capability of CONCARE for corrosion resistance has been tested under accelerated conditions of chloride attack to the extent of 10,000 ppm which is truly amazing.
What CONCARE does is to provide an armour of protective coating to the steel rebars to prevent the rusting thus resulting in increased life to the tune of 5 times thus adding to construction quality, construction economics and construction safety.
This CONCARE venture is from a bunch of first generation entrepreneurs from Karaikudi Tamilnadu which is famous for the Nattukotai Chettiars, Chettinad Meals, CSIR laboratory CECRI, Alagappa University as well as holy shrines of Pillayarpatti and Kunnakudi.
The product is made in the Ultra Pure Chemicals Pvt Ltd plant at SIDCO Industrial Estate, Karaikudi 630 005 Tamilnadu, India. The popularity of decade old CONCARE has been already established all over Tamilnadu. Ultra Pure Chemicals is planning to launch anti corrosive and heat resistant paints, water proofing admixtures etc in the near future.
