Bush left the podium, at the end of his long long long farewell speech, he raised his hand in a parting gesture to the gathered correspondents. President-elect Barack Obama requested to shift into the pre-inaugural residence a few days earlier than normal, so as to settle his child into school, at the correct time. However, the Bush administration informed the president-elect that this was not possible. Someone had already booked the residence out.
At the time this was released to the media, one expected it to be a royal member, or at least a ruling Head of State, that was given priority. No, it was simply an ex-prime minister. The ex-prime minister of Australia, John Howard!
