The Los Angeles Regional Small Business Development Center Network [SBDC] is hosting a free webinar presentation and discussion with Juan Carlos Soto, vice president of Cloud Computing for Sun Microsystems, Inc. The presentation, “Shining a Light on Cloud Computing,” takes place Thursday, January 22nd at 1:00 pm PST. To register, visit http://www.brownbagseries.com.
Cloud Computing, which eases the delivery and deployment of Internet-based services, can save business owners time and money, improve information security, facilitate data and programs access from anywhere, and eliminate repetitive costs as businesses grow. Technology businesses, or businesses that use technology, will benefit from this presentation.
In this hour-long webinar, Mr. Soto will highlight what cloud computing is and how it can impact small and medium sized businesses. The webinar will include a presentation on the business benefits and implications of cloud computing, and an opportunity for Q&A.
Business owners will learn how cloud computing transfers data storage and software tasks from their own computers to the Internet, or “cloud.” “Out of the box” software that is currently purchased can essentially be “rented” from an online service provider.
Brian Reid of C7 solutions, an IT support and consultancy agency, explains that, “What makes this particularly smart is that smaller businesses and one-man enterprises actually have the most to gain. Without any technology costs, you can have the same quality software and IT services as much larger companies.”
Sun recently formed its Cloud Computing business unit with a focus on developing cloud computing technologies, architectures and services. Sun's strategy is to enable companies to build and operate public and private clouds who in turn offer their cloud services to customers of all sizes. With its rich heritage of providing state-of-the art network computing solutions, Sun has the open source technology, expertise and vision to help companies build, run and use their own clouds.
