On Sunday, February 8, 2009, from 3-5pm, John Brothers will read from his most current book, But Now I See at The Storyteller’
But Now I See is the story of a Vietnam veteran turned protestant minister, who wrestles with questions about guilt and forgiveness -- guilt for what he did and guilt for surviving when others died; forgiveness for those who killed his buddies and, most difficult of all, forgiveness for himself.
Rev. Will McKenzie ministers to a large church within the elegant but decadent society of pre-Katrina New Orleans. Narrated through several distinct points of view, the book is filled with spiritual and psychological insights and is seasoned with dry humor amid life’s realism. Will’s transformation entices readers to reflect on their own faith-views and invites them to join him on his soul-changing journey.
John Brothers is a Presbyterian minister, a psychotherapist, and a native of New Orleans. He is now retired. He holds degrees from Princeton University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. His highest degree is a Ph.D. in counseling. Scores of war veterans have come to him for therapy, and the inner typography of guilt and forgiveness are very familiar to him, as are the dynamics of human nature. This is a challenging and splendid read!
