HOME ACCESS HEALTH CORPORATION ADDS FASTING GLUCOSE
TO THE CHECKUP AMERICASM MICRO SERUM TEST PLATFORM
Hoffman Estates, IL (December 9, 2008). Home Access Health Corporation announced today the release of fasting glucose as the next addition to the CheckUp AmericaSM Mail-in laboratory test platform. The Company can now perform multiple laboratory tests, including a complete cholesterol panel, hemoglobin A1c, ALT liver enzyme, and fasting glucose, using 4 drops of fingerstick blood.
Fasting glucose is the recognized standard for the diagnosis of diabetes, a chronic disease that affects nearly 24 million Americans, and the A1C test is commonly used to monitor glucose control in people already diagnosed with diabetes.
CheckUp AmericaSM is the American Diabetes Association's diabetes and heart disease prevention program. This program helps Americans learn more about their risk for type 2 diabetes so they can work to prevent it. The American Diabetes Association and Shaping America’s Health are working with Home Access Health Corporation to bring you the CheckUp AmericaSM Mail-in Lab Test, a simple home test that screens for blood glucose (sugar) and cholesterol.
“With nearly 24 million children and adults with diabetes and another 57 million Americans at risk for developing the disease, the addition of fasting glucose to our dried serum test platform provides comprehensive access to professional laboratory services from the privacy and convenience of home,” said Mary Vogt, managing director of Home Access Health Corporation. “This newest scientific breakthrough positions Home Access as the leader in home testing for critical chemistry assays and infectious diseases”.
The accuracy of the CheckUp AmericaSM Mail-in Lab Test is driven by the proprietary serum-separation technology combined with a fasted fingerstick blood sample. Each CheckUp AmericaSM Mail-in lab test includes everything necessary to successfully collect, package and mail a small fingerstick blood sample to the Home Access laboratory. There, technicians conduct a complete analysis of the sample, with results generally available within 3 business days of sample receipt. The Home Access laboratory is both CLIA certified and accredited by the College of American Pathologists.
“Breakthroughs in technology like this continue to make it easy for individuals to take an active role in managing their health," said Gary Deverman, CEO, Shaping America’s Health. “With so many people at risk for developing diabetes, early identification and treatment of diabetic risk factors will save lives. We joined with Home Access to provide the CheckUp AmericaSM Mail-in Lab Test so that people can monitor their health and work closely with their physician to ensure proper care and treatment,” said Richard Kahn, PhD, Chief Scientific and Medical Officer, American Diabetes Association.
