Irish tourism Information Company calls for investment in tourism to create jobs.

Press Release – Tuesday 13th January 2009 from www.lookaroundireland.com www.lookaroundireland.com is a leading Irish tourism information website used as a travel aid and amenity guide to Ireland.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jan 15, 2009 – Through feedback from subscribers and users, we can accurately monitor and reflect the opinions and satisfaction rating of Ireland as a holiday destination. Despite accurate bad press about prices in Ireland, some due to currency differences, Ireland remains remarkably popular as a destination from a wide demographic range.

The current turmoil in the economy and the continuing savage attrition of jobs emphasizes the need for Ireland to realize that it must exploit its greatest asset and job creator - tourism.

We are witnessing the movement of manufacturing to much lower cost bases in Eastern Europe and the Far East. It is impossible for Ireland to compete with these countries, despite a favourable tax regime. We need to expand what is ready-made industry requiring a high labour ratio in it’s cost base.

During the heady days of the construction boom those companies involved in the tourist industry found great difficulty attracting staff and most now employ foreign workers. The majority of these workers are women of East European origin. Many had partners who worked in the construction trade who now find that there is no work here. The hospitality industry is now finding that if the male returns to work in their own country, the female will generally return as well. Therefore, there is now a slow build-up in labour requirement despite the slowdown in the accommodation sector.

www.lookaroundireland.com feels that the Government must exploit better the tourism opportunities this country offers. The tourist industry is a labour intensive one with the capacity to generate huge amounts of jobs at a time when they are sorely needed.

What is needed is more promotion of Ireland as a tourist destination offering a wide variety of experiences in leisure, culture, sports and heritage.

The tourism industry needs to get its cost base right so that the product is not overpriced.

At this time, that is the case unfortunately as the feedback from our website tells us. Nonetheless, the overwhelming experience visitors have of Ireland are positive ones, despite this and this then translates into promises to return and to spread the good news.

www.lookaroundireland.com calls on the Government to add to the budget of the various tourist bodies rather than cutting them as it is predicted. A stimulus package of marketing measures should be introduced to sell Ireland, even in such difficult times, indeed, because of such difficult times.

No other industry in the country has the ability to generate an even spread of wealth throughout communities than the tourist and leisure one. No other industry has them capacity to employ people of all ages in such vast numbers if we can attract the tourists.

We feel that with immediate effect the Government must prioritize the tourism industry as one in which to invest substantial monies which will show quick reward in reducing the dole queues.
