Videomaker Magazine editors, who include prominent video production industry professionals, elaborated on their decision, stating, "Openfilm stands out as a leader for allowing the sharing of high-resolution video and the community appears to be pretty close-knit compared to a lot of other sharing sites.”
"We are extremely proud of this recognition,"
The site is in private beta mode, but pre-registration is now open for all content creators to join and upload their original video and animation to the site. All registered members who upload videos accepted by Openfilm are given advance access to the private beta site. Early contributors benefit by having a greater presence on the site at the time of the public launch.
Openfilm continues to enhance its site with new content and features, including more of a “movie theater” viewing experience for users. Recent developments include an improved video player and separation of the content contributor's page into a channel and a profile. The channel page is focused on content viewing while most of the text information and interaction tools are relocated to the profile, which is geared toward social networking and user communication.
Openfilm’s video player has been updated with sleeker controls and a sidebar area with the playlist of the user’s videos and related videos. The new player configuration also allows the display of companion banner ads, which will mark the implementation of the ad revenue sharing program allowing users to earn on their quality works. The revenue sharing program is the company's current focus and scheduled to be implemented shortly.
New improvements complement the recent features, which were announced in December last year, including video recommendations, reviews, blogs and a film festival database. In addition to English and Spanish, the site is now available in French, German and Italian.
