(Los Angeles, CA)—Los Angeles Etiquette Consultant Michelle Shannon has released six tips to help teach and reinforce good manners for Young Ladies.

Shannon, President of M. Shannon Consulting, said, “I believe too many of our young ladies are raising themselves and do not know what is socially expected of them now that they are growing up”

Six tips to help teach and reinforce proper etiquette for young ladies include:

All young ladies should learn how to address adults by their proper title. For example; “Miss“, “Mrs.” or “Ms”, “Mr.” or “Dr.” a young lady should never address an adult by using his/her first name, unless given their permission to do so.

When meeting someone young ladies should always stand up, look the person in the eye and extend their right hand and shake hands with a nice firm hand shake. Your young lady may say something like; “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Jones, my name is Tiffany Smith.”

A young lady should apply fragrances before putting on clothing or jewelry.
Some fragrances will leave permanent stains on fabrics or metals. Apply perfume lightly to the body’s pulse points; wrists, base of the throat, behind the ear lobes and the bend in the elbows

When attending a party a young lady always arrives on time. The reasonable arrival time for a party in a private home is within 8 minutes of the appointed time. If the invitation says 7:00 p.m., arrive between 7:00 and 7:08.  When attending an event with an open invitation it is best to arrive no later than within an hour of the ending time.

A young lady walks on the inside when walking down a sidewalk with a man. A man walks on the curbside. This used to be to protect women from potential hazards.

A young lady never uses a cell phone when she has guests. Talking on the cell phone and texting in the presence of guests is rude and shows a lack of interest. These activities should not be allowed while dining, during class, a church service, the movies, in the library at a funeral or at the doctor’s office. Also, a young lady never sends a text message that she doesn’t want to read/see on the front page of her local newspaper.
