Christians all over the world will once again seek the power of collective prayers to achieve unity in the Christian Church.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2009, an event which dates back to 1908, will gather various proponents of the Prayer for Christian Unity movement in an eight-day celebration beginning January 18 and lasting until the 25th. This year’s theme is taken from Ezekiel 37:15-28: “That they may be one in your hand."
“This is the first time the Missionaries of Prayer will be involved in this event and we are happy to be part of unifying the body of Christ. We are looking forward to praying for the unity of the Church and we are expecting a worldwide audience,” says Nicole Haye of the Missionaries of Prayer, an interdenominational Christian Prayer Ministry.
Aside from Haye, expected to speak at the event are Pastor Vince Levy and Samantha Levy of the Bakersfield Christian Parade, Father Wade Fahnestock of BlueKirk.org, Pastor James Williams of the St. James Ministries in New Orleans, Rabbi Paul Sherbow of CometoZion.org in Israel, and Pastor Emmanuel Eliason and Dellice Eliason of Word Gospel TV in Colorado.
Collective prayers will be done every day at 5, 6 and 7 AM EST during the entire Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Interested parties may call (347) 202-0098 to join the discussion at that time or to request prayers from a team of intercessors involved with the event. They may also listen to the call online at www.blogtalkradio.com/
Each morning will open with praise and worship followed by a 15-30 minute preaching by the guest speaker on the topic of Christian Unity. Appeals to heal the divisions in the Christian Church will then be lifted up to God. Prayer requests and dialogs about the issues pertaining to Christian unity will follow.
Haye says a prayerful life is key to achieving unity within the body of Christ. She shares that praying for unity not only among the various denominations of the Christian Church but teaching others to pray remain one of the Missionaries of Prayer’s priorities.
The Missionaries of Prayer conducts prayer intercessions for individuals and offers online training classes for setting up a prayer ministry and prayer lines. The group hopes that by teaching individuals to pray, the door to a fulfilling, God-centered life will be unlocked.
