Kelly Clark Takes Dew Tour Superpipe Title on Home Turf; Fellow Vermonter Takes Second

Two Vermonters take top spots at the 2nd stop of the Winter Dew Tour

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Jan 13, 2009 – Kelly Clark Takes Dew Tour Superpipe Title on Home Turf; Fellow Vermonter Takes Second

WEST DOVER, VERMONT (January 12, 2009) – Returning to the same halfpipe that she once rode as a youngster, Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark claimed the top spot in the women’s snowboard superpipe finals at the Winter Dew Tour at Mount Snow on Sunday, January 11.

Clark’s run, aired live on NBC to a national audience, began with a gigantic frontside air to a backside 520. She continued with a frontside 720, a cab 360 and a frontside 520. She finished with a backside air and earned 90.75 points, a total none of the other women in the field could reach.

“I couldn’t be happier coming home to Mount Snow and doing so well in front of all my friends and family,” Clark said. “I really had a lot of fun tonight and it’s great to come away heading into the third event with a first and a second place.”

With this win, Clark secured the lead in overall Winter Dew Tour point standings for superpipe. She stands a great chance of winning the overall Dew Cup when the third and final stop hits Northstar-at-Tahoe in California, February 19 – 22.

Hannah Teter, of Belmont, Vt., took second in the superpipe competition with a score of 88.75 and Ellery Hollingsworth, of Darien, Conn., was third at 83.00. Teter won the halfpipe gold medal at the 2006 Olympics in Italy.

Clark was born in Rhode Island but moved to West Dover, Vermont at a young age. She grew up snowboarding at Mount Snow and attended Mount Snow Academy during her high school years. In 2002, she qualified for the Olympics and went on to win the gold medal in the halfpipe.

Clark’s parents and brother own and operate TC’s Restaurant in West Dover, about a mile and a half from the Mount Snow superpipe.
