An Engaging Story about Earth’s Precious Protectors--Fairies

In Purple Butterflies, writer D.W. Golden writes a wonderfully imaginative tale about how life is really a serendipitous wonder!

Jan. 13, 2009 - PRLog -- Thirteen-year old Darby thinks that life just couldn’t get any worse.  She’s not like the other girls in her school—she’s not a tiny, little cheerleader and people at school remind her of that a lot, constantly teasing her.  She has one best friend, Lucy, tall and gangly—the exact opposite of Darby, but what happens to these seemingly lonely little misfits will take them on a journey that will show them just how very special they really are.

One cold spring day, Darby sees a glimpse of another world—pixies dancing on the motes of dust that streams through her bedroom window.  Brushing this off as her imagination, Darby has a week that is strange—to say the least.  She’s nearly kidnapped, she stops a major oil spill in her community, and meanwhile, there are some pretty painful lumps growing on her back.  Can life get anymore weird?

Darby visits a local bookstore and notices a man staring intently at her.  Darby doesn’t know what to make of it until the man tells her she has a destiny—those lumps on her back aren’t going away.  It’s part of her transformation into a fairy.

Darby grows thinner and taller and learns that she has a very unique power.  As her physical appearance changes more and more, she comes to terms with the fact that she isn’t human.  She and Lucy enter a magical world of fairies, but not everything in it is warm and inviting.

What awaits her in this new world and who will try to control her even before she has the chance to spread her wings and fly!

Fans of C.S. Lewis and J. R. Tolkien will delight in this whimsical tale.  D.W. Golden is sure to become a favorite author of the fantasy genre.
