Christi Masi, founder of The Healthy Bride and creator of the “Battle of the Betrothed”, has been featured in the winter 2009 edition of Martha Stewart Weddings. The article, titled “New Beginnings,”
According to Masi, a wedding is the perfect time to focus on the beginning of a healthy life with your true love. She offers advice on skin care, hair care, fatigue, healthy eating, and exercise.
Masi advises that it takes at least one month for skin and hair products to show their effects, so she reminds future brides to be patient and avoid switching products after only a few days or weeks. Also, it is not necessary to wash your hair every day as it can cause extreme dryness.
Going to sleep and waking up at the same can help your body restore its natural cycle of rest. Masi notes that bridal bodies especially “need to rest and recharge.”
Regarding nutrition and grocery shopping, Masi says, “If you can’t pronounce the words on the ingredients list, put it back on the shelf.” Calcium, dark orange vegetables (carrots, sweet potatoes), fish (shrimp, light tuna, salmon, catfish), and vitamin-C–rich foods are the best choices for future brides.
Exercising is important, but Masi does not recommend cramming in two weeks of hard workouts before the big day. She advises mixing two days of cardio with two days of strength training. Her free podcast workouts can be downloaded from iTunes by searching for “healthy bride.”
A certified personal trainer, Masi resides in Seattle, Wash., where her 11 years of sales, marketing, and athletic experience motivate her to help women achieve their personal and fitness goals. Among her many achievements, she is an international mountain climber completer of 10k races, triathlons, and summit climbs of Mt. Rainier, and was named 2006 Modern Bride Trendsetter.
