Los Angeles, CA — In less than two weeks, the world will celebrate two historic events within days of each other: the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama and the 80th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Many, including Dr. King’s son, Martin Luther King, III, have already commented on the connection between these two men. Certainly, Dr. King and the civil rights movement that he led forever changed the political and social landscape of this country.
Furthermore, one might wonder whether the campaign message of Hope was inspired by his predecessor’
The participating artists hail from California to Zimbabwe, and their styles of music range from soulful rhythm and blues to heartfelt folk to upbeat Indie rock. Dream On! has partnered with Pathways To Peace, based in Oakland, CA, the REACH Complex, based in Atlanta, GA, and Pivot Legal Society, based in Vancouver, Canada. Collectively, these organizations have projects that reach locally, nationally, and internationally and address issues including peace and justice, human rights, and education – issues that Dr. King himself embraced.
