Innovative Intertainment, Inc. is launching Spanglish Online on January 12-- A new program created for kids, by kids. The hosts of the show are kids too! As a weekly webisode, the ultimate goal of Spanglish is to build a multicultural foundation and to teach kids to become bilingual. This kids' show is unique because it combines youth entertainment, Hispanics and bilingual education. It's all wrapped up into one online package, playing into the future of media consumption.
Hispanics/Latinos are the largest minority in the United States with 45.5 million, accounting for more than 15% of the population, and is continuing to grow. With Spanglish Online, Spanish-speaking youth can learn and practice English, and English-speaking youth can learn Spanish. Tina Dominguez, of San Francisco, CA, and Hispanic community awareness advocate, acts as a consultant for the show. “I think it would be great for my children to learn Spanish not only because it will make them more versatile and marketable in the future workforce, but also because I have always been a little embarrassed that I never become fluent in Spanish myself. It is a connection to my heritage that is missing,” says Dominguez.
Spanglish Online includes segments on current events, interviews with high profile, cultural figures in our nation (athletes, musicians, politicians, etc.), toy reviews, and a folklore section. Spanglish Online gives kids an opportunity to learn about the world from a kid’s point of view, in two languages. They also have an opportunity to win prizes when participating games that relates to each segment.
Spanglish Online’s hosts are bilingual children around 10 years old. The show follows the hosts to different places and events, which will be of interest to all kids. The segments should enlighten and intrigue youth of all ethnicities.
Because community awareness is a large part of the show’s goal, Spanglish Online takes part in charity sponsorships related to children, as well as developing events of their own aimed at raising youth’s knowledge of the world.
Innovative Intertainment is also getting ready to launch a social network site connected to the show in 2009. This social network will be a venue for children to communicate with other youth and create pen-pals with other kids from around the globe. Working with the National Education Association and Paul Peterson, formerly of the Donna Reed show, Innovative Intertainment is now developing safety standards for the network.
According to Bob Woolsey, creator of Spanglish Online and CEO of Innovative Intertainment, the show took years to develop. “When kids learn a second language, they empower themselves. Our hope is to have them live richer, fuller lives and have fun while they learn,” Woolsey stated.
Innovative Intertainment is seeking sponsors who are interested in pursuing the same goals as its creators and staff members.
