The Hotel Galvez, A Wyndham® Historic Hotel, is pleased to host The 24th Annual Tremont House Mardi Gras Ball as part of Mardi Gras! Galveston 2009. The Hotel Galvez is offering a two-night package that includes accommodations, two tickets to the ball on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 and parade viewing of the Momus Grand Night Parade. The package price for the weekend of Feb. 20-22, 2009 starts at $1,100. Ball tickets, sold separately, are $350 per couple and include an open bar, dancing, parade viewing, a dinner buffet, and a breakfast to complete the evening.
The Hotel Galvez lobby, restaurant and Terrace Veranda will come alive with live music by three groups, African and Gulf Coast cuisine and Mardi Gras fanfare as the hotel presents “An African Adventure” on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. The annual Tremont House Mardi Gras ball will return to its downtown location in 2010.
Evening festivities include the dynamic Latin rhythms of Austin’s favorite dance band, The Brew, in the Terrace Veranda from 6 p.m. - midnight. Also performing in the Terrace Veranda will be Voices of Africa, a vocal and percussion group presenting an African floor show. Guests will dine on a lavish buffet while enjoying the music of the internationally acclaimed Dr. Michael White Jazz Quartet in the lobby. White is a noted musician from New Orleans.
Dress for the evening is African themed or black tie. Proceeds from the ball will benefit Help4Galveston a program dedicated to rebuilding and restoring the city post Hurricane Ike. The hotel will also accept donations.
The annual Tremont House Ball originated in 1985 when hotel owners Cynthia and George Mitchell celebrated the grand opening of the hotel with a lavish ball and worked with City leaders to revive city-wide Mardi Gras celebrations on the Island. The 2009 Ball will be held at Hotel Galvez due to damage incurred by The Tremont House as a result of Hurricane Ike, but it will return to its downtown location in 2010.
The Hotel Galvez, rated four diamonds by AAA, is a member in the National Trust Historic Hotels of America. The Hotel Galvez is owned by Galveston preservationists Cynthia and George Mitchell and is part of Mitchell Historic Properties.
