Noblesville, IN — The recent economic downturn isn’t standing in the way of at least one small business operator’s expansion plans.
Eddy’s Sports Pub, at 141st and State Road 37 in Noblesville, in the northern suburbs of Indianapolis, Indiana, is the newest venture for Heather and Scott Foster. They took over the pub, which had previously operated under different ownership as Sidelines Sports Pub, in October. The Fosters have owned and operated Eddy’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill at Geist Marina for three years, and have made it the thriving center of the upscale area’s social scene. They envision the same popularity for Eddy’s Sports Pub.
Scott points out, “With the original Eddy’s, we discovered that it’s the atmosphere that keeps people coming back. It’s warm, inviting, relaxed—part of the neighborhood. Our goal for Eddy’s Sports Pub is for it to be the same kind of social hub for the Noblesville–
Asked about the impact of the economy on their operation, Heather’s opinion is, “Sure, the timing could have been better. But entrepreneurs tend to see challenges, not obstacles. So the economy is just another challenge in an industry that we enjoy because it brings us new ones every day.”
Heather, whose background is in marketing, adds, “Our toolkit for Eddy’s Sports Pub, because it has a younger clientele than Eddy’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill, includes not just a website but also the big social–media sites, MySpace and Facebook. We use our presence online to find and stay in touch with our customers, updating them on what’s happening, featured games, when local bands are appearing, and so on. It’s much more time–intensive than cost–intensive marketing, which is a good trade–off nowadays. But more than that, it’s the most effective way to reach our tech–savvy, on–the–go target customer.”
